Irish Derby Special (NAP)
NAP for tomorrow's Irish Derby LIVE on ITV4!
15:45 Curragh (Irish Derby, June 26th 2021)
We were very keen on the chances of Lone Eagle for the Epsom classic just a few weeks ago unfortunately he had a last minute problem and could not take his chance.
He was however still left in the Irish Derby plus had options at the Royal Ascot meeting so it’s interesting to see him turn up at the Curragh.
By Galileo he is bred to win this race and should give the O’Brien runners something to think about. He’s already a Group winner as a 2yo but his seasonal reappearance left a lot to be desired. Although that run was disappointing there were a few factors i.e change of jockey and was held up instead of making the running.
His second start of the season was much better easily winning a Listed contest at Goodwood with regular pilot Silvestre de Sousa and that ought to be a good preparation for this race.
SDS is unable to take the ride due to commitments with King Power but they have managed to book Frankie Dettori who is one of the worlds best so not a bad substitute at all.
In short Lone Eagle has the pedigree, class, form and potential to be competitive in this race and even more so with Frankie booked.
You can still back Lone Eagle @ 9/1 on Betfair which is incredible value.
We advise backing him early because of the Frankie factor. It’ll be a surprise if he’s not a lot shorter at the off time.
Should be a fascinating race even better because it’s shown on ITV4 (15:45pm UK time).
Good luck and come on the Eagle!
